Made up this drink as an old-fashioned variation with figs! I used my Flavor Thesaurus book (by Niki Segnit) to see if there were interesting flavors that I could combine to make the cocktail more complex and learned that almonds, oranges, and figs pair well together. If you want this cocktail now and don’t want to wait for the figs to infuse with bourbon, blend a bit of bourbon with some dried figs, sieve it, and serve! I like the added viscosity when you do it this way. I also froze a few figs for garnishes later– they freeze really well and maintain their pretty color!
